Victorian officials concerned with QR code compliance
Victorian contact tracing chief Jeroen Weimar says he is concerned with decreasing levels of compliance with QR codes systems as authorities scramble to identify close contacts of two COVID-19 clusters. Health officials have come under heavy fire in the wake of the state’s latest lockdown with questions raised over the state government’s delay in implementing a unified check-in system. “We’ve become increasingly concerned at low levels of compliance, so people not checking in whatever system is being used,” Mr Weimar said. “We opened it up at the end of last year and said we need to ensure we have good QR code systems in place. A number of businesses came forward and ran a different set of systems, we allowed it, we kept a close eye on it. “As we started seeing the performance wasn’t what we needed it to be, we’ve now, on the basis of the evidence we’re seeing, we’ve had to conclude that moving to one system was a more robust way of doing it and that’s what we’ve now done. “I am concerned we’ve got people who haven’t registered in, and that’s what we need to focus on now.”
