On this day 25 years ago the horrors of the Port Arthur massacre in Tasmania shook the nation and reverberated right around the world. There were 35 people killed and 22 injured in what was the worst mass shooting by a single person on record at the time. It took just 12 days for former prime minister John Howard to overhaul the nation’s firearm laws following the tragedy.
