Joe Biden demands minimum wage be raised to $15
US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to raise the minimum wage to $15 and pass the Pay Check Fairness Act to “ensure greater equity and opportunity for women”. President Biden has delivered his first address to a joint session of Congress, where he spent 36 years as a US Senator, and urged his fellow lawmakers to invest in blue collar jobs, raise the minimum wage, and bridge the gender pay gap. The Biden administration’s jobs plan will have a large focus on domestic production and industry, as the president spruiked the principle of “buy American”. “American tax dollars are going to be used to buy American products, made in America to create American jobs. That is the way it's supposed to be and it will be in this administration,” he said. “The American jobs plan is a blue-collar blueprint to build America”. President Biden also said no American working 40 hours a week should “live below the poverty line” “Let’s raise the minimum wage to $15,” he declared. He also said the American government must ensure greater equity for women, and demanded Congress deliver the “Pay-check Fairness Act to my desk as well”.
