War of words highlights 'complete mistrust' between state and federal governments
Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says there is an extraordinary war developing between the Queensland and federal governments over the vaccine rollout – indicating a “complete mistrust” between the two bodies. Queensland Deputy Premier Steven Miles today launched a barrage of criticism against the Morrison government, claiming it has never provided a certainty of vaccine supply and accusing it of attacking the states. “I just think it’s extraordinary what we’re seeing here is war between Queensland and the feds has opened up here,” Mr Clennell said. He pointed out both NSW and Queensland had only used 50 per cent of their vaccine doses, questioning whether it was because some of the vaccine supply was only made available this week. “Or is it because other states, then Queensland, are taking this attitude that they cannot trust the feds to supply the second dose and therefore they have to hang on to it,” Mr Clennell told Sky News. “In which case there’s a complete mistrust between state and federal authorities as we seek to rollout this vaccine. “There was no question there from Queensland that they do not trust – the premier there and the deputy premier – the federal government to deliver on their promises for vaccines. “What a crisis for federation really when it’s such an important program for the future of the country.”
