Queensland mandate only vaccinated hospital staff will treat COVID patients
All Queensland hospital staff treating COVID-19 patients will be mandated to receive the first dose of the vaccine. Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young said as of Wednesday only those staff who have received their first dose of either the Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine can “work directly” with confirmed cases. It comes as Queensland recorded eight locally-acquired cases of COVID-19 in the past 24-hours with 78 active cases of the virus currently in the state’s hospitals. The premier also announced the existence of a further COVID cluster, with one now linked to the Princess Alexandra Hospital doctor and the new cluster linked to the hospital nurse. The Queensland government set a target to vaccinate all workers in phase 1a in four to six weeks from the beginning of the vaccine rollout, but Dr Young announced the state has “reached that." Dr Young said given all staff in phase 1a have “had the opportunity to be vaccinated,” it will be mandated that only staff who have received the jab can work with COVID-positive patients.
