Palaszczuk contradicts Qld Health Minister over claims state is 'stockpiling' vaccines
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has denied claims Queensland is stockpiling vaccines in a move which went against the words of her health minister who yesterday said the state was in fact “holding back” Pfizer jabs. On Tuesday Qld Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said “we have to hold back enough Pfizer to give them their second vaccination because we can’t be sure and even Commonwealth can’t be sure when that Pfizer delivery is going to come”. However, in a press conference today Ms Palaszczuk declared her state was “not stockpiling vaccines” and the valuable treatment would not be wasted. On Tuesday, Professor Kelly said states do not need to store vaccines to be used as second doses as the Commonwealth will be “keeping a second dose available” for every person who receives their first dose. “There is no need for a state or territory to be keeping any vaccine aside for that purpose, that is the Commonwealth’s responsibility,” he said. Ms Palaszczuk went on to criticise the federal government for failing to be transparent and release vaccine figures and raised concerns regarding the Commonwealth vaccine delivery system.
