Labor's national conference to go ahead online
Labor’s national conference will meet virtually for the first time from tomorrow with 400 delegates expected to tune in to thrash out the party’s national platform ahead of the next federal election. The conference will span two days – beginning on Tuesday – and follows the lead of President Joe Biden’s Democratic convention in Wisconsin. Hundreds of delegates were slated to convene in Canberra in 2020 – however, it was cancelled due to COVID-19. Insiders expect battles on toughening the party’s stance on China, trade deals and the role of gas. Former Labor minister Stephen Conroy told Sky News “the secret to a successful ALP conference is finding a set of words that everybody can be comfortable and support.”
