Incoming Home Affairs Minister to target online trolling
Incoming Home Affairs Minister Karen Andrews has vowed to place greater scrutiny on online trolls and hold those operating under anonymous usernames to account. Speaking to Sky News this morning, Ms Andrews said she “will certainly be taking an active interest and engaging as much as I possibly can on that issue.” “Look, social media has significant challenges, one of those issues is the level of anonymity. “We need to make it very clear that people can’t hide or should not be allowed to hide on these social media platforms so absolutely I will be taking a very close look at that.” Outgoing Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has previously spoken out about his treatment online from social media trolls – flagging he will take legal action in some regards and pursue defamation proceedings moving forward against people who attack him and speak freely under anonymous usernames.
