Defence Industry an 'important portfolio for the future'
Defence Industry Minister Melissa Price told Sky News the elevation of her portfolio to Cabinet is an acknowledgement of its importance for the future. “I think what people have seen over the last two years is I’ve worked hard to identify what are the barries, what are the hurdles to making sure that Australian companies get every opportunity to be able to participate in a $270 billion investment in defence capability,” she said. “So I think it’s an acknowledgement that defence industry is an important portfolio for the future. “Perhaps it’s also acknowledgement of my 30 years of working in the commerce and the legal fields and my broad ranging skill set. “It’s a great thrill and obviously a great honour to be in Cabinet”. Ms Price said her main focus as a member of the new taskforce for women, announced by the prime minster on Monday, will be the challenges facing women in regional and rural areas. “As I think the prime minister has made very clear, the time is for action,” she said. “That is what the women of Australia are demanding from us and we will deliver on that”.
