Masks were the ‘major impediment’ stopping people returning to the office in Victoria
Victorian Chamber of Commerce CEO Paul Guerra says masks were the "major impediment” preventing people from returning to the office in Victoria since they could work from home without one. This comes after the state eased some of its restrictions from 11:59pm Friday - allowing 75 per cent of the public and private sector to return to the office. Masks are now only required in high risk settings including public transport, ride share and taxi vehicles, and large retail settings such as shopping centres. “It was the major impediment that was stopping people coming back into the office,” Mr Guerra told Sky News. “You can understand when they’re sitting at their desk trying to have a conversation or trying to do a phone call in some cases with a mask on - it made it impossible. “Particularly when they’re saying, ‘hey we were able to do this at home without having a mask on - why do we need to come back into the office?’ “I don’t think anybody minded wearing them on public transport and the like but when they got into the office, you know who you’re around, pull the mask off and let the collaboration to begin. “So that will be the biggest thing that has occurred to enable areas like the CBD to come back to life as office workers come back in”.
