Greece extends Athens lockdown as infections rise
Greece will not be lifting lockdown restrictions as planned after a sharp rise in COVID infections and ICU admissions in Athens. Intensive care units of COVID hospitals have reached 90 per cent capacity in the Greater Athens area. Schools are closed, only essential shops can operate, and night curfews are in place to restrict movement. Lockdown restrictions had been expected to lift on March 1 for Athens’ metropolitan area where half of the country’s population lives.
