First batch of AstraZeneca vaccines touch down in Sydney
The first shipment of AstraZeneca vaccines has touched down in Sydney with 300,000 doses arriving on Sunday morning almost doubling the total amount of jabs which have so far arrived in Australia. Health Minister Greg Hunt announced the “important milestone” in Melbourne on Sunday, and said the shipment was the first of 53.8 million units of the AstraZeneca vaccine to be made available in Australia. The first of the CSL Australian-made AstraZeneca vaccines will be made available from late March, with one million doses a week to be distributed throughout the community. The next step of the vaccine rollout sees the Thereapeutic Goods Association batch testing the newly arrived AstraZeneca vaccines, and it is then expected they will be released “by next Monday,” Mr Hunt said. “We will release 200,000 doses to the states which will more than double that which they would already have received by this week.”
