World's largest solar project moves forward after agreement signed in Darwin
The world’s largest solar project is one step closer to completion after an agreement was signed in Darwin today. The Sun Cable project aims to produce 20 per cent of Singapore’s electricity requirements through a solar PV array in the Northern Territory. The 12,000-hectare development would have a transmission line from the solar site to Darwin where the electricity would be transported via cable to Singapore. A final investment decision will be made in 2023 and land access agreements with Indigenous groups are yet to be completed. The 1500 jobs which would be created during its construction make it an attractive proposal from the perspective of the Northern Territory government.
