Labor to propose gig economy minimum wage
Gig economy workers such as UberEats drivers will get a minimum wage and other conditions under a new Labor policy. Shadow Minister for Industry and Innovation Ed Husic told Sky News the concern is that as the gig economy has grown, the issue is whether or not it will create a new working poor. “We do need to be mindful of the conditions, the safety that people have protecting them,” he said. “Our workplace system and the laws around it should evolve to take into account new models that are merging.”
