Johnson and Johnson announces effective single-shot vaccine
Vaccine developer Johnson and Johnson has announced its single-shot vaccine is 85 per cent effective against the most serious symptoms of COVID-19. A trial of up to 44,000 volunteers found it prevented hospitalisation across all demographies and against multiple variants. The level of protection against moderate and severe COVID-19 was 72 per cent in the US, 66 per cent in Latin America, and 57 per cent in South Africa. This vaccine does not need to be kept frozen, meaning it's a good candidate for countries with weaker infrastructure. The company plans to seek emergency use authorisation from the US Food and Drug Administration next week.
