Frydenberg touts ‘temporary and targeted’ nature of JobKeeper payment
Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has dismissed calls for JobKeeper to be extended, reminding Australians the program was already extended for an additional six months. JobKeeper program is currently set to be phased out by the end of March with positive unemployment figures at 6.6 per cent for the month of December. Mr Frydenberg touted positive economic figures, saying more than two million Australian have come off the payments since it was first put in place by the government. “The JobKeeper payment was always meant to be a targeted and a temporary payment," he told Sky News on Sunday.
