Berejiklian has no advice for McGowan on COVID-19 response
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian says she “would not presume” to advise her Western Australian counterpart on his state’s COVID-19 response, following criticism from Premier Mark McGowan over the Northern Beaches outbreak. She asked that Western Australia “judge” NSW based on its coronavirus record and said it was not for her to “suggest what other premiers should do”. “That is a matter for them,” she said. The NSW Premier’s response follows in the wake of a strongly worded tweet from Deputy Premier John Barilaro who was only too happy to use Western Australia’s quarantine breach to criticise the state’s hard border policy. “I strongly recommend the WA Premier considers adopting the NSW strategy to manage this virus … Today WA has learnt firsthand an elimination strategy is unrealistic.”
