South Australia to close border with NSW on New Year's Day
The continued spread of coronavirus has led the South Australian government to reimpose a hard border with New South Wales. From 12.01am January 1, people from NSW will be prevented from accessing the state except for several exceptions, South Australia Premier Steven Marshall said. “We have received advice that would suggest that we need to strengthen our border restrictions with NSW,” he said. “Only South Australians returning, people relocating permanently or essential workers will be exempt from this arrangement.” He also said a 100-kilometre buffer zone would apply to people living in border communities, and people travelling to South Australia through NSW would be exempt, provided they do not stop in NSW. Returning South Australians or those people relocating will need to undertake 14 days of mandatory self-isolation.
