Qld health authorities confirm COVID variant poses no risk of spreading
Queensland’s Health Minister Yvette D’ath said the recent South African COVID case identified in the state posed no further risk to the community because appropriate protocols were followed at every point. The infected woman flew into Brisbane from South Africa on December 22 and was moved straight into hotel quarantine. The genomic sequencing later revealed she had a mutant strand of COVID which originated in South Africa, deemed to be more contagious. Ms D’ath said there was no danger of further outbreaks occurring from this infection considering the appropriate measures were taken at every point during the woman’s hotel quarantine period and at the transfer.
