NSW Police urge residents to adhere to restrictions ahead of NYE
New South Wales Police Assistant Commissioner Mick Willing says while the majority of people are abiding by the current health restrictions, he is confident police will be able to manage any rule-breakers on New Year’s Eve. He stressed the planning for this year’s celebrations was the same as previous years – with about 2,000 to 3,000 additional officers to be deployed around the greater metropolitan area. “It’s been planned exactly the same way that we would deal with every other New Year’s Eve,” Mr Willing told Sky News. “I’m confident we can work with local communities to ensure this New Year’s Eve is conducted in a safe way, a COVID safe way in particular and make it enjoyable for everyone. “We’ve seen other instances over the last few days of people flouting the rules, we don’t want to see that, we want people to abide by the current health orders, they’re there for a reasons, that’s to keep people safe.”
