New Year's Eve will see a 'significant' police operation in NSW
NSW Police will launch a significant operation to ensure New Year's Eve is COVID-safe and will equip officers with substantial powers under health orders. NSW Assistant Police Commissioner Mick Willing said there will be "large numbers" of police officers out on New Year's Eve and will target people trying to access the CBD without a pass. "If you do not have a New Year's Eve pass do not try to get into the green zone," Mr Willing said. "Police officers will be equipped with the powers under the health order to move people on should they be congregated in numbers that are unsafe". The assistant commissioner also said the police force will coordinate a state wide response and will be able to reallocate resources back into regional areas to "provide a flexible response". "We are confident we can deal with anything that arises."
