Minister threatens to cancel visas of those responsible for Bronte Beach gathering
The illegal gathering of a party of backpackers at Bronte Beach on Christmas Day has caused outrage in all levels of government, with Immigration Minister Alex Hawke threatening to throw any tourists responsible for the event out of the country. “I’ve certainly asked the department to work closely with the New South Wales Police to bring forward anyone they’re aware of that has been in breach of their visa conditions,” Mr Hawke said. “Australia’s put itself in a great position over the last ten months and everyone in Australia is aware of how well we’ve done and we don’t want to risk our public health and safety because people are flouting public health orders.”
