Iran accuses Trump of ‘plot to fabricate pretext for war’
Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has accused President Donald Trump of trying to fabricate a “pretext for war”. He said in a Tweet that Iran wasn’t seeking war but warned the country would defend itself. His remarks came after the US flew two B-52 bombers in the Middle East, the third deployment in the area in 45 days. US Central Command said in a statement their flight was a “deterrent message” to anyone who intended to do harm to Americans or American interests. Concerns are rising as January 3 marks the anniversary of the US drone strike which killed Iran’s top general Qassem Soleimani. Fox News cited an anonymous military official who said a US intelligence report indicated Iran wanted to “avenge that killing”.
