Greater Sydney COVID-19 threat 'almost equal' to Northern Beaches: NSW Premier
Health authorities are concerned about three cases discovered late Monday night and early Tuesday morning which prompted a warning from the premier suggesting the COVID-19 threat in Greater Sydney is nearly on par with the Northern Beaches. The three cases have not yet been linked to the Avalon cluster and one infection was reportedly discovered in Wollongong. Ms Berejiklian said “the threat in Greater Sydney is almost becoming as equal to part of the Northern Beaches”. The Northern Beaches is currently under lockdown restrictions due to a coronavirus cluster which is centred around Avalon. However, the premier reassured the public in a press conference she had no intention of imposing restrictions on Greater Sydney. However, as New Year’s Eve approaches a number of inner city councils have decided to shut down public spaces and parks ahead of celebrations.
