Government should be 'held to account' to strike a balance between health and the economy
CEO of Corporate Travel Management Jamie Pherous has urged the public and mainstream media to hold the government to "a much higher account" in balancing health and the economy amid “ad hoc” border closures. “We live in a developed country where people plan and strategize and to suddenly open and close ad hoc is very difficult for people to have confidence,” Mr Pherous told Sky News. “This is all about, at the end of the day, suppression to make sure we have enough hospital beds.” Mr Pherous said the state governments have the resources and knowledge to manage potential outbreaks and should be able to keep the economy open. “I think it’s time that both the mainstream media and the public hold the government to a much higher account to say, if you’ve got the resources, which after all are tax payer funded, do your job, manage it and get that balance right,” he said. “It’s very skewed to one way and it’s become very political it appears”.
