Cricket Australia locked in negotiations with Qld government over New Year's test
Cricket Australia and the Queensland government remain locked in negotiations over whether the New Year's test match will be played at its traditional home at the SCG. The New Year's test can go ahead in Sydney with a limited crowd and with Northern Beaches residents barred from attendance under current coronavirus health orders, but border restrictions with Queensland could put an SCG test match in jeopardy. Queensland currently has border restrictions with NSW which may prevent players from travelling to Brisbane without quarantine for the fourth test match to be played after the planned Sydney test. Cricket Australia is negotiating with the Queensland government to secure passage for players, staff and broadcasters which allow the Sydney test to go ahead. Melbourne's MCG is the contingency plan should the test match not be played in Sydney with curators preparing for back-to-back matches at the ground.
