Costello claims weak ministers forced his hand on GST reform
Former treasurer Peter Costello has hit out at his former cabinet colleagues saying he was forced to push through the largest tax reform in a generation by the end of the Howard Government's second term. Mr Costello argued incumbent ministers had been "Yes Men" who lacked courage. Mr Costello made the comments in an exclusive interview with The Australian newspaper as the release of cabinet papers by the National Archives revealed John Howard's government grappled with how to introduce the GST.
