CDC updates health warnings for Americans considering vaccine
The United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has issued new health guidance for people with particular underlying medical conditions who are considering receiving the coronavirus vaccine. The warnings – issued on Saturday – addressed people with underlying conditions - such as a weakened immune system or an auto-immune condition - and were told they could receive an MRNA vaccine provided they had not had a severe allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in the vaccine. People with HIV were also told to be aware of limited safety data on the vaccinations – and warned they could experience a weakened immune response if they chose to take the vaccine. Meanwhile, data from Johns Hopkins University indicated December was the US’ deadliest month since the beginning of the pandemic – with more than 63,500 COVID deaths this month alone. As of Saturday, the country’s total number of deaths hit 331,000.
