Tourism Minister condemns Qld for 'high propensity to whack borders in place'
Trade and Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham has slammed the Palaszczuk government’s approach to borders during the coronavirus pandemic, saying he understands why holidaymakers may be apprehensive about booking a trip to the region during the festive period. Mr Birmingham said the Queensland Labor government had shown a high propensity to "whack the borders back in place at a moment’s notice”. While the Coalition frontbencher told Sky News he is “thrilled to see the Queensland borders reopened,” he said visitors may be reluctant about booking a trip over the holidays due to the border situation. He said holidaymakers should know Queensland tourism businesses have pivoted so people can “book with confidence,” knowing flexible terms and conditions are in place even if the borders were to shut. New South Wales and Victoria together represent an $8 billion tourism market for Queensland.
