Five arrested over alleged childcare fraud syndicate
Education Minister Dan Tehan has revealed five people have been arrested over an alleged fraud syndicate in which they set up fake childcare centres to access Commonwealth funding. "We have now seen savings of $3.1 billion made as a result of activity against fraud of the child care system. We will continue to crack down on anyone that seeks to defraud the taxpayer," he said. "This investigation was against fraud... but for people who are pretending to run legitimate daycare family businesses and seeking to defraud the Commonwealth, then there would be concerns around the childhood educators and the type of care that children are getting. "The government is absolutely determined to make sure it continues to crack down on any fraud occurring against the Australian taxpayer."
