China uses ADF war allegations to fuel horrific anti-Australia propaganda
China has published to Twitter horrific and doctored propaganda images of an Australian soldier holding a knife to the throat of a child, in an “extraordinary” attempt to seize on the release of ADF war crimes allegations. The images – which not been censored by Twitter despite being faked – were published by China’s foreign ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian who said he was “shocked by murder of Afghan civilians & prisoners by Australian soldiers”. “We strongly condemn such acts, & call for holding them accountable.” AFR political editor Phillip Coorey said even though “Australia is a relatively small country” it was causing major harm to China through its ban of Huawei and by having a free press. Mr Coorey said China’s comments on the ADF report were “extraordinary”, especially considering it was responsible for “state sanctioned” human rights abuses.
