Palaszczuk's 'conservative' border stance proved 'attractive' to traditional LNP supporters
Sky News host Chris Smith the only surprising result from the Queensland election was an upward swing in support for Annastacia Palaszczuk which had to be tempered due to a "massive" number of postal votes. He told Sky News, the Queensland premier "had a swing above five per cent across the board". “The postal votes usually favour the LNP, this time I think though we’ve got LNP voters who are also lured by a conservative approach to borders,” Mr Smith said. “She did what probably a coalition would do at any state, she remained tight and conservative about keeping her borders closed and that was quite attractive to, formerly, supporters of the LNP. “The more she kept saying ‘our borders are remaining closed’ the more popular she got, and she could tell that from those rolling polls.”
