Australian economy 'more positive' than expected
REA Group Chief Economist Nerida Conisbee says the economy is "certainly looking more positive" than it did prior to national lockdowns in mid-June. Deputy RBA Governor Guy Debelle declared Australia was out of its recession after just six months. "We started to really pick up in June - the absolute low-point of the economy was in early May and then of course we saw the Victorian lockdown which really derailed things to a large extent," Ms Conisbee said. "We did see a big drop in inflation figures last month... but they've increased again last month... we have seen in every state, except Victoria... jobs recovered. "We still have a problem with unemployment, particularly youth unemployment is a very problematic area at the moment but it does look like we're in recovery."
