Multi-billion federal plan to instil 'resilience and scale' in Aussie manufacturing
The $1.5 billion manufacturing plan to be announced by the federal government will seek to instil resilience and scale to Australian production, ensuring the sector remains competitive on the international stage says Industry Minister Karen Andrews. A major pre-budget speech will outline a major manufacturing initiative with government co-investment in six areas where Australia has a competitive advantage. Manufacturers in resource technology, food and beverage, medical products, recycling and clean energy, defence and space fields stand to benefit under the new framework. Ms Andrews said “there are some key sectors where Australia has been able to demonstrate that it has comparative and competitive strengths and there are also some sectors we have identified as important from a strategic point of view”. “What we’re trying to do with this strategy is build the scale that we need in key priority areas."
