Mandatory mask wearing 'outdoors in summer' in Victoria is 'ridiculous'
Liberal MP Tim Smith says the idea that it is mandatory to wear a mask outside "on your own, particularly in the middle of summer" is "ridiculous". Mr Smith argued face shields were a "good compromise" for those who wanted to do the right thing without wearing masks outdoors, however they have been banned by the Andrews government. "I have no issue wearing a mask in a supermarket or on public transport in confined indoor spaces," he said. "There's good science for wearing a mask in enclosed spaces but I don't think there's any evidence wearing a mask outside and keeping socially distanced on your own is going to do anything to stop the spread of coronavirus. "It's frankly rubbish and spin and politics above what is sound public policy."
