High production costs driving up gas prices: Canavan
Nationals Senator Matt Canavan says gas prices are relatively high in Australia, compared to the rest of the world, because the cost of production is high. “I consistently said (this) when I was resources minister, go back and look at my speeches,” Mr Canavan told Sky News. “That’s what the ACCC says, it’s not me. On the world stage, we’ve got relatively high cost of production. “No matter what we do, no matter export restrictions, promoting new basins – you cannot have a long-term price below the price of production here because people won’t drill.”
