‘Deceive, distract, attack’: Biden must avoid falling prey to Trump’s debating style
Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden must prove to the American people “he’s sharp, he’s strong, he’s very responsible and he’s not socialist” in the upcoming debate with Donald Trump, says former US Ambassador to Australia Jeffrey Bleich. “If he (Trump) gets an answer that’s not practical, he tries to take the question in a completely different direction on something he wants to talk about,” Mr Bleich told Sky News. “Biden has to stay away from that”. According to Mr Bleich, the Democratic nominee must “do his own style and not get drawn into the Trumpian style” if he is to successfully finish the debate. “He has to use this opportunity to give an unmitigated impression of himself to the American people”. “A lot of them have heard caricatures of him particularly from the President saying he’s old, sleepy, and he’s a vessel for socialism. “His whole theme is ‘build, back, better’ and this is his opportunity to show what that means.” US Studies Centre CEO Simon Jackman said if Trump is to win the debate he “needs to land a blow that validates the various attack lines that he’s put out there about Biden.”
