JobKeeper and JobSeeker extension to dominate final week of parliament
Legislation to extend the JobKeeper and JobSeeker programs are anticipated to dominate the final week of parliament before the October budget. Both schemes will need to pass the Senate this week before their current arrangements expire next month. The reduction of fortnightly payments under the legislation proposed by the Morrison government has been criticised by Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese who questioned the wisdom of decreasing the allowance in the middle of a pandemic. However, extending the JobKeeper program alone will cost an additional $30 billion and Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has assured the public he believes the changes are appropriate. Image: Getty
