Vic should focus on 'better contact tracing before contemplating stage four lockdown'
Liberal Member for Higgins Katie Allen says Victoria should focus on better contact tracing before contemplating a harder, stage four lockdown. “The problem with an elimination lockdown, a New Zealand-style lockdown, is a two week lockdown wouldn’t work, the modelling shows it would have to be longer, two to three months,” she said. “So I believe that we need to double our effort on what we know works, and that’s contact tracing and ensuring the community does what the community needs to do.” Dr Allen said a harder lockdown would have devastating effects on the already-troubled state and national economies. “We already know the impact that it has at stage three, so stage four for two to three months is almost unimaginable,” she said.
