Qld Premier 'will do what's popular, not what's right'
Resources Minister Keith Pitt has responded to the Queensland Premier’s decision to close the border to Greater Sydney, saying “we know that the Premier will do what’s popular and not necessarily what’s right”. Refusing to say whether he supported the decision or not, Mr Pitt said his priority was “jobs and the economy”. “I’m about driving jobs and our economy and I’ve got to say, the resources sector’s been phenomenal the last few months; the iron backbone of the economy,” he said. Mr Pitt said a US-funded fuel reserve to be built in Darwin was “good news, not only for Australia but certainly for the Northern Territory”. “What happens generally with these types of things is once you get that cornerstone investor, you potentially get more side-by-side collocated that take up the advantage, so I think in the future we’ll see more fuel storage up there,” he said. "More strategic storage located in Australia... more opportunities for Darwin and that means more jobs and that's what i'm all about."
