President Trump can't simply 'subvert democracy' to help him at the polls
US President Donald Trump can't simply delay the presidential election past November because he thinks it might give him a "better chance" of winning at the polls, Politico reporter Daniel Lippman says. Mr Lippman told Sky News he would be shocked if the presidential election, marked for November 3, was pushed-back to December or early 2021. President Trump recently floated the idea of delaying the election due to the the health risks associated with the coronavirus pandemic. Mr Lippman said "people in Congress from both parties kind of unanimously don't want to delay it". He said any delay to the election would essentially "subvert democracy". "We're not supposed to delay an election because, if a president thinks that if it gets moved towards December, January or February, that he might have a better chance," he said. Image: AP
