Harder Vic restrictions 'certainly expected'
Finance Minister Mathias Cormann says he certainly expects restrictions to be further tightened in Victoria in order for the outbreaks to be “ring-fenced”. Premier Daniel Andrews announced masks would be made mandatory across regional Victoria, including Greater Geelong, the Surf Coast, Moorabool, Golden Plains, Colac Otway. The Prime Minister and the Premier will continue to work closely to do what needs to be done to get on top of this crisis,” Mr Cormann told Sky News. “Everybody wants to ensure we get on top of this as soon as possible. “We are going to have to go through the orderly processes to make sensible decisions that are effective.” When asked if he would support a New Zealand-style lockdown, Mr Cormann said he would not comment, and he will let the relevant authorities continue to work through it. Under a harder lockdown, all businesses aside from only the most essential - supermarkets, pharmacies, petrol stations and healthcare – would be forced to close. On Thursday the state recorded its darkest day of the coronavirus pandemic with 723 new infections and 13 deaths.
