Aus coronavirus modelling indicates Vic should have peaked
Victoria Chief Health Officer says coronavirus modelling indicates Monday should have been the state’s pandemic peak as it reached record high infections with 532 new cases and six deaths, taking the national death toll to 161. The state’s aged care system was plunged into crisis as nearly 700 infections were linked to aged care facilities when three weeks ago they accounted for zero. St Basil’s Home for the Aged in Faulkner reported 84 infections, making it the hardest hit facility in the state. Meanwhile in NSW, rapid contact tracing and strict health measures have confined the number of new daily infections in the mid to low teens after health authorities were concerned the Crossroads Hotel cluster would threaten the state’s recovery. Of 17 new cases recorded in NSW on Monday, only two were under investigation with the remainder sourced to hotel quarantine and known outbreaks. All states and territories, barring NSW and Victoria, consistently recorded zero cases of community transmission. Image: News Corp Australia
