Victorians plagued by coronavirus surge as the state's curve spikes
Victoria has recorded 75 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, as experts warn residents to stay vigilant and avoid designated hotspots. Health Minister Jenny Mikakos announced on Monday that of the new infections, 23 remained under investigation as health authorities worked to identify the source of all new cases in a bid to curb the spread. Ms Mikakos urged all Victorian residents to remain vigilant despite the majority of the outbreaks taking place in a collection of Melbourne suburbs. “You’re not immune to catching coronavirus by virtue of the post code you’re living in, the risk is throughout the state of Victoria,” she said. The Health Minister also confirmed a world-first saliva-testing program was launched in Keilor Downs on Sunday where more than 100 people were already tested for the virus.
