Regional hoteliers hit with thousands in fines for poor COVID-19 response
Undercover police are cracking down on Queensland's regional hoteliers, doling out thousands in fines for poor COVID-19 response. Resources Minister Keith Pitt said if states allowed "you and a few thousand of your closest friends" to attend protests without penalty, it was unjust to punish businesses trying to restart the economy and employ Australians. "If you're going to police the rules, you do it equally and in a balanced way," he said. Agriculture Minister David Littleproud called on Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk to conduct a review into the hefty fines which threatened the livelihoods of country hospitality businesses. Mr Pitt applauded the Queensland Government's decision to reopen borders calling it "a step in the right direction", facetiously implying it was Ms Palaszczuk's first step. "The Commonwealth's advice has never been to close borders. We can't stay living under a rock," he said. "We have to deal with the pandemic as it is, ensure the safety of all Australians but we need to get back to work." Image: News Corp Australia
