'No doubt' HomeBuilder will support construction industry
With 36,000 registrations since it was announced, there is "no doubt" the HomeBuilder scheme will boost the construction industry, Housing Minister Michael Sukkar says. The $688 million HomeBuilder package, commencing in July, was tailored to Australians wanting to build new homes or make major renovations. To be eligible for the $25,000 grant, individual applicants must earn less than $125,000 a year, or $200,000 for couples. They must also sign a contract between July and December, and the new home can only be worth up to $750,000. Those wanting to renovate, must spend at least $150,000 dollars on the work. “We’ve signed on every single state other than Queensland through the National partnership Agreement,” Mr Sukkar told Sky News. “So we’ve now got the vast bulk of the country administering the scheme. “This has proven to be extraordinarily popular and we’d expect between now and 31 December, not just first home buyers, but many Australians will utilise the scheme to purchase that new property or renovate. “The primary focus of the HomeBuilder scheme is to support the hundreds of thousands of jobs in the residential construction industry. “There is no doubt this program is going to do that.” Image: Getty
