'If I didn't shut down those postcodes, I'd be shutting down all postcodes'
Victorian Premier Daniels Andrews said if he didn’t shut down the 10 at-risk postcodes, he would be forced to shut down the entire state, as he announced a further 73 new cases of the coronavirus. “It won’t be over for a long time and the best and most important thing that we can all do, whether we are in one of these hot spot postcodes or not is to follow the rules," he said. On Tuesday the Premier announced Victorians living in one of the state’s 10 coronavirus hotspots would be banned from leaving their homes if they didn't qualify for one of four exemptions. He said stage three restrictions would come into force from 11.59pm Wednesday in a desperate bid to take back control of the state's surging coronavirus outbreak. Mr Andrews revealed the state undertook almost 21,000 tests on Tuesday alone and more than 110,000 since the testing blitz was announced. Authorities in Victoria also knocked on about 54,000 doors as of Tuesday evening in the high-risk suburbs to offer advice and testing information. He also announced 12 new testing sites across the 10 declared hot-spots. Image: News Corp Australia
