Alleged bounty on US soldiers a 'major escalation' of tensions
Allegations Russia offered bounties to the Taliban for the lives of US soldiers in the Middle East would be an "ironic" and "major escalation" of tensions between the two nations, the US Studies Centre's James Brown says. "How ironic the Russians, having been against the Taliban, are now working with them potentially, to take American lives," Mr Brown said. "It's not unusual that you see in these war zones a range of different intelligence agencies operating. "You sometimes see countries that aren't involved in these conflicts paying local groups to try out tactics or to try out new weaponry." Image: Getty
