Virus probe an 'unremarkable' proposal
Labor leader Anthony Albanese says an inquiry into the origins of COVID-19 is an “unremarkable, common sense business” as tensions between Australia and China heat up over the proposed probe. A war of words between the two nations has unfolded over the last week with senior government ministers insisting they would not bow to China's threat of economic retaliation. Mr Albanese said the idea of a probe was “completely unremarkable” given the consequences the virus has had on the world. “The relationship with China is an important one for Australia but I regard it as completely unremarkable the idea there should be an investigation into this,” he said. "When we have one death in this country from unexplained circumstances there is often an inquiry. "It certainly isn't an attack on any nation, China or anyone else, it’s just a simple going about normal common sense businesses. "I think that should be recognised. There is no need for any tension to be increased over that." Image: News Corp Australia
